Joy Angela Anderson is a Xicana creative collaborator, curator, dancer, educator and event organizer/producer from El Sereno, (East L.A.). She approaches artistic practices with questions of spirituality, inclusivity, identity, post-colonialism, access, public space, non-western notions of healing, ceremony & ritual. Her dance & movement works are often informed by native or indigenous wisdom, plant allies and involve a sense of ritual/ceremony.
She has performed and collaborated with artists, collectives and curated exhibitions with grassroots organizations and activist/artist-run spaces in L.A. The dance floors and DJs of underground dance and deep house music, Orisha dances and yoga has influenced her practice and serves as a spiritual, healing, transformational and ritual practice in her life. Joy performed with taisha paggett & WXPT last year and currently creates and performs with Critical Mass Dance Company.
