inSITE with AB Miller, 2022

In January 2022, we returned to the Sam and Alfreda Maloof Foundation with AB Miller’s Dance Conservatory II class (led by Nicole Robinson) and AB Miller’s TV Production class (led by Leo Rivas). Together, the dance and film students worked on site at the Maloof to create dance for film, which showcased at the AB Miller Film Festival in May 2022.

Drew Bell, Untitled, 2022

Filmed and Edited by Bryan Sanchez and Adrian Bolanos

This film presents a character creating a narrative about two personalities: one dark and one light. They are two completely different characters that are able to understand each other in ways that can only be explained by movement. - Drew Bell

Fransheska Martinez, Masked, 2022

Filmed and Edited by Ashley Ramirez and Giovanni Correa

“Masked” is a representation of things people don’t see in individuals. The things people do not show about themselves. They are the things we are afraid of, insecure about, that confuse us, or we are mad about. They are things that make us vulnerable. In order to present ourselves as strong to others, we mask those things and create a façade that hides who we truly are, what we think and how we feel. In this piece, lighting and color impacts the environment and different attitudes that support my movement ideas and help create the setting for “Masked.” - Fransheska Martinez

Jasmine Flores, a beautiful mind, 2022Filmed and Edited by Stephanie Vaca

Mental health has always been overlooked in today’s society. most people who have mental illnesses and have a hard time doing everyday tasks are often seen as lazy. there are many people who are too scared to come out and talk about how they feel due to the fear of being seen as an outcast. your mental well-being is just as important as your physical well-being and it needs to be taken more seriously. your mental health matters. YOU matter. put yourself first and do what you need to do to keep your mental safe space peaceful. - Jasmine Flores

Kassandra Hernandez, Enemy Within, 2022Filmed and Edited by Jacob Leal and Giovanni Escoto

I find it challenging to make significant work as an artist. I get overwhelmed and don't know where to start. All of the artwork inside and outside Sam and Alfreda's house had a big impression on me. It made me curious as to where they obtained their ideas. For weeks, I felt unworthy to be a part of such a massive project since I couldn't decide what I wanted to make for a site-specific piece. As a result, I decided to create a piece about my greatest enemy, myself. Hoping to break the cycle of underestimating my work. - Kassandra Hernandez
