ICA, LA gives more visibility to Shared Practices

August 25, 2025

On August 22nd, the ICA announced the addition of Laying Groundwork for Shared Practices on their resource page: Yellow Pages.

”ICA LA is excited to share Laying Groundwork for Shared Practices—a collaboratively authored document reflecting the March 2025 convening of LA performers and members from various visual arts organizations, including ICA LA’s own Senior Curator Amanda Sroka, co-organized by Dorothy Dubrule (performer and editor of the recently released Being Work) and Chloë Flores (Executive Director and Curator of homeLA), and hosted by the Feminist Center for Creative Work.

With contributions from John BurtleJay Carlon, Amelia Charter, Alexsa Durrans, Mara McCarthy, taisha paggett, Sroka, and additional support from devika wickremesinghe, samantha mohr, and Alex Sloane, this document gathers insights, values, and proposed standards for supporting movement-based work within visual arts contexts. The document is also accompanied by a reference library that acknowledges the people and advocacy that shaped the efforts of the convening. Performance is central to ICA LA’s program, as evidenced in recent ICA LA shows like Will Rawls: [siccer], Infinite RehearsalBarbara T. Smith: Proofand Ron Athey: Queer Communionand participating in convenings like this helps us to understand how to continue to celebrate movement-based practices ethically, collaboratively, and with care.”
