New Review: Redrawing the Rancho
We’re grateful to share a recent review by Austen Villacis for Performance Art Museum, titled “They Brought the House Down: Redrawing the Rancho at the Rowland Mansion” (February 3, 2026).
In the review, Villacis reflects on Redrawing the Rancho as a research-driven, site-responsive project that activated the Rowland Mansion’s layered histories of land, labor, migration, and power through performance. Engaging closely with the artists’ approaches and the specificity of the site, the piece considers how the project transformed the mansion from a historic structure into a living space of encounter—where embodied practices opened new ways of understanding place, memory, and collective experience.
We’re deeply appreciative of Villacis’s thoughtful engagement with the work and grateful to Performance Art Museum for providing a platform for sustained critical writing on performance-based and site-responsive practices.
